A triplet mother defied chances of six million to one to have three children naturally but says that caring for three newborns has left her sleep deprived and despondent. Judit Agota Minda, 31, from Norway, was taken aback when she learned she was carrying three children with her now-fiancé Glenn, 38. Judit was encouraged by physicians to consider a foetal reduction owing to a cardiac ailment she has, but she couldn’t picture her life without all three of her sisters, with whom she grew up enjoying an ‘unbreakable’ closeness.
She gave birth to all three through the ᴄᴀᴇsᴀʀᴇᴀɴ sᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ on January 29 this year, at the age of 34 weeks, and acknowledges that the lack of sleep that comes with having three infants has made her ᴅᴇᴘʀᴇssᴇᴅ. Despite the challenges, Judit and Glenn stated they wouldn’t have it any other way. ‘We have been going through a really terrible phase,’ the new mother wrote in a candid Instagram post posted with her 31.1K followers last month. Something mentally knocked me down. I had days where I couldn’t even get up because I was so sɪᴄᴋ ᴀɴᴅ ǫᴜᴇᴀsʏ, and I finally couldn’t even hold my own children because I was so unwell.
‘I was thinking about how I wasn’t welcome in my family and how I should just vanish to make my loved ones’ lives easier.’ Because of our new sleep regimen, we don’t get much sleep on certain days. The babies’ sleep patterns haven’t yet been established, and they wake up at different times throughout the night. Sleep deprivation is real, and it may exacerbate ᴅᴇᴘʀᴇssɪᴠᴇ symptoms, which is something I’ve never encountered before.’ Judit’s mother was 22 years old when she gave birth to her and her two sisters Sofia and Szilvia by C-section at 36 weeks in Hungary.
Szilvia had dark hair and was the calmer of the three siblings, but Sofia and she had a striking resemblance. ‘From our earliest days, my sisters and I were there to encourage each other,’ Judit told new! magazine. ‘We were inseparable, and we spoke of having three houses on the same block all the time.’ Judit lived in the United States for a while before returning to Norway in 2015 to join her sisters and become a primary school teacher after spending four months studying the language. Glenn, a managing director, met on a dating service in December 2016 and the two moved in together three months later.
Judit became pregnant in June 2018, and the pair were taken aback when the doctor discovered three heartbeats at eight weeks. ‘They believe a normally ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇɪᴠᴇᴅ triplet has a one in six million chance of having naturally ᴄᴏɴᴄᴇɪᴠᴇᴅ triplets,’ Judit remarked. ‘Even though I was overwhelmed by the idea of caring for three infants, I felt so blessed to be able to provide my own children the same special upbringing I’d experienced with my sisters.’ Judit has ᴛᴀᴄʜʏᴄᴀʀᴅɪᴀ, which produces an erratic pulse, and physicians were afraid that having three infants would put too much strain on her heart. They proposed a ꜰᴇᴛᴀʟ reduction to eliminate the weakest kid in order to give them all the greatest chance of life, but the parents decided they couldn’t do it after originally consenting. Judit started an Instagram account to chronicle her pregnancy, and her posts have received hundreds of likes from other triplet moms. She spoke up about her severe morning sickness, stretch marks, and weakened bladder. Filip, Amelia, and Henrik, her three children, were born in January and weighed 4lb 4oz, 3lb 4oz, and 3lb 3oz, respectively. ‘I shed tears of delight the first time my babies were put on my chest,’ Judit remembered. ‘I’d never had such an intense surge of love before.’
The babies were kept in intensive care until they were strong enough to return home. Judit now maintains her Instagram feed with beautiful images of her family of five, as well as frequent updates and candid admissions. She recently confessed that becoming a first-time mother to three little children has transformed her into a “different person,” and that she and her family are experimenting with a new sleeping regimen. ‘I feel like I’ve grown up at the age of 31 because I had to grow up,’ she wrote. ‘I have irreversibly fallen in love, I have been responsible for young beings that are completely reliant on me, I have experienced depression for the first time in my life, and I have a strong desire to be a better version of myself in order to raise self-assured and joyful children.’
