Babajide Omirin and Stacy are Nigerians from Lagos. Demilade is a wonderful five-year-old kid, and they are her mother and father. She naturally shares the same skin tone as her two parents. However, the couple had never expected to have twins—twins named Daniel and David, one of whom was physically strikingly different from his family.
Put simply, Daniel, like his five-year-old sister Demilade, has ᴅᴀʀᴋ sᴋɪɴ and very ᴄᴜʀʟʏ ʙʟᴀᴄᴋ ʜᴀɪʀ, but David has ᴀsʜ ʙʟᴏɴᴅᴇ ᴄᴜʀʟs and very ᴘᴀʟᴇ sᴋɪɴ. How is such a thing possible?
The fact is that neither parent is light or ᴡʜɪᴛᴇ-sᴋɪɴned: “We didn’t know about the ᴅɪFFᴇʀᴇɴᴄᴇs between the twins while I was pregnant. The scan didn’t show this, so it was a big surprise at the time of ᴅᴇʟɪᴠᴇʀʏ and it was a most surprising thing when the first twin (Daniel) came out with ʙʟᴀᴄᴋ ʜᴀɪʀ and the second twin (David) came out with golden ʜᴀɪʀ. I had the twins by C-sᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ and the doctors stated, “It looks like you gave birth to twins who are not exactly identical.” Before I knew it, the nurses had crowded around and had started sᴛᴜᴅʏɪɴɢ ᴛʜᴇ ᴛᴡɪɴs ᴇxᴛʀᴇᴍᴇʟʏ carefully!” Stacy said.
How was it possible that a dark-sᴋɪɴned Nigerian couple had given birth to twins with such ᴅɪFFᴇʀᴇɴᴛ sᴋɪɴ colors? The ʀᴇsᴘᴏɴsᴇ of the doctors was not long in coming. In short, David was born with a rare form of ᴏᴄᴜʟᴏᴄᴜᴛᴀɴᴇᴏᴜs ᴀʟʙɪɴɪsᴍ, which is the cause of his ᴘᴀʟᴇ sᴋɪɴ and golden ʜᴀɪʀ. It should be ᴇᴍᴘʜᴀsɪᴢᴇᴅ ᴛʜᴀᴛ, ᴅᴇsᴘɪᴛᴇ ᴛʜᴇ ɢᴇɴᴇᴛɪᴄ ᴄᴏɴᴅɪᴛɪᴏɴ ᴏF ᴀʟʙɪɴɪsᴍ being very rare in the world, it does affect over two million people in Nigeria.
Despite having ᴀʟʙɪɴɪsᴍ in the family, mother Stacy says she has never ʀᴇᴄᴇɪᴠᴇᴅ ɴᴇɢᴀᴛɪᴠᴇ comments about her “different” twins, and neither have they been ʙᴜʟʟɪᴇᴅ ᴏʀ ʜᴀʀᴍᴇᴅ: “I don’t care what color their sᴋɪɴ is because they are my babies. What is most important is that I always have my kids with me!
