Amber Hills and her 19 year old partner, Logan Brown-Fletcher – high school sweethearts, from Newberg, Oregon welcomed a rare identical triplets in August. Doctors put the odds of conceiving identical triplets at one in a million, which makes the couple’s identical triplets very special. The couple welcomed their three daughters, Raelyn, Avery and Elaina, on Monday, August 1.
Their neonatologist, Dʀ. Craig Novack , told them that identical triplets are so rare he has only seen one other set in his 22-year career. Hill tells Us Weekly she wasn’t surprised when the ultrasound showed triplets. Brown-Fletcher admits:” My dad has multiples in his family, so I figured it would happen to me someday. But her fiance got the sʜᴏᴄᴋ of his life. I was crying and swearing! I was a little scared because I was still in high school and working a small job with not many hours. But as we started to approach their due date, I was like, ‘This is going to be life changing, but I am ready’.“
Hills’ pregnancy was made even more difficult because the ultrasound that revealed she was carrying triplets also showed a large m.ass in her ovary. She said:” I was so scared I could lose the babies. I bawled the whole way home.”
The m.ass turned out to be a c.yst the size of a basketball and hills had surgery to r.emove the ovary and the ᴄʏsᴛ while she was pregnant. The triplets’ birth came earlier than planned after doctors had trouble hearing a heartbeat for one. Hills was about 33 weeks along when she had a C-section. The infants who respectively weighed 2 pounds, 12 ounces; 3 pounds, 11 ounces; and 2 pounds, 15 ounces.
After a few weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit at Providence st. Vincent medical center in Portland the girls were able to go home. Brown-Fletcher said:”A lot of our friends weren’t very supportive at first. They were all like. You are too young, you are not ready.” Meanwhile, the new parents are focusing on more important matters. Brown-Fletcher said:” I’m just excited to take them home and be a family together in one house.”
