Just days before her d.e.a.t.h, a mother posted a touching picture of her newborn infant giving her d.y.ing twin sister a “last hug.” Little Charlotte Campbell can be seen putting her arm around her p.oor twin Esme Campbell in the heartwarming photo of Amy Campbell holding both of her girls together for the first time. After they were born at just 26 weeks and 5 days, it was the first time their mother Amy had been able to hold them both together.
Amy said :”The nurses placed them on my chest and Charlotte put her arm around Esme and I thought ‘they love each other’. That moment of having them both snuggled up in my arms was the best moment of my life. Despite the ᴅᴇᴠᴀsᴛᴀᴛɪᴏɴ of what we had just been told, in that moment everything felt so right.”
They held their brave girl for 12 hours after her life support was turned off until she ᴅɪᴇᴅ in her mum’s arms. Esme had spent 7 weeks battling for survival with her sister Charlotte since they were born severely premature at 26 weeks and five days on July 10, 2016 weighing just 2.2lbs and 2lbs respectively. But after tests revealed that the ᴠᴇɴᴛʀɪᴄʟᴇs in Esᴍᴇ’s ʙʀᴀɪɴ had filled with so much Fʟᴜɪᴅ that she she would never have any quality of life, Amy and Conor made the heartbreaking decision to switch off their baby girl’s life support. Determined for their daughters to ‘meet’ before Esme ᴘᴀssᴇᴅ ᴀᴡᴀʏ, Parents Amy and Conor from Leeds, Yorks, asked for the nurses to help them hold the girls at the same time.
Amy added: “I was holding her when she took her ʟᴀsᴛ ʙʀᴇᴀᴛʜ. When she ᴅɪᴇᴅ and we realized she ᴡᴀsɴ’ᴛ coming back it was so heartbreaking. But I tried not to cry because I wanted her to be surrounded by happiness and love and strength. I wanted her to remember that she had a strong mum and she shouldn’t be scared of where she was going next.” Charlotte, now 22 months, came home with her mum and dad on the twins’ due date of October 10, 2016 and has been thriving ever since. Amy feels that the girls have had a magical bond since before they were born and that Esme will always be there for Charlotte in that special twin way.
