Stunned Mum Gives Birth To 6.3kg Baby

Cary Patonai was aware that a C-section was planned since she was carrying an exceptionally large baby. But the parents experienced a sh.ock when the child was born. Finnley, a newborn who weighed 6.3 kilograms, had to put on clothing meant for a nine-month-old infant right away. The mother recalls how stunned everyone was, exclaiming, “I’ve never seen such a huge baby before.”

Cary and Tim Patonai had been told that they were going to have a big baby even before the birth. The doctor had guessed that the baby in Cary’s ʙᴇʟʟʏ would weigh over six kilograms. “He was such a big plus that I had almost twice as much ᴀᴍɴɪᴏᴛɪᴄ ꜰʟᴜɪᴅ, so to say that I had an even bigger ʙᴇʟʟʏ and was incredibly uncomfortable is an understatement,” Cary said.

At her last ᴜʟᴛʀᴀsᴏᴜɴᴅ, she was told that the baby weighed 5.8 kilos, but that it was probably on the high side, and that he would probably weigh a little less when he was born. But that did not happen.

Cary was booked in for a planned C-sᴇᴄᴛɪᴏɴ on October 5th, but was forced to do it a day early when her water ʙʀᴏᴋᴇ. She was ᴅᴇʟɪᴠᴇʀᴇᴅ at the hospital in Arizona, and there was a big commotion in the hospital when son Finnley was taken out of the ᴡᴏᴍʙ. He then weighed 6.3 kilos.

“As soon as they picked him out, they said “my God, he’s huge!” Everyone reacted, saying “I’ve never seen such a big baby before, I can’t believe it.” He was so perfect and round in every way. He really is my cuddly little honey bear,” says the mother.

When the hospital staff would put a diaper on the newborn baby, they had to special order his size – he did not fit the size available at the hospital. The clothes the family had prepared didn’t work either, they were all too small. The family members had to rush to the store and buy baby clothes made for children between six and nine months.

Before Finnley was allowed to go home, he spent a few days in the baby ward at the hospital. “At one point in the children’s ward, he was one of four babies, and his weight was the same as the other three babies combined.”
